At this time of year in Israel all the toy stores are packed with (unfortunately mostly kidsized) Purim costumes. While browsing through today, I couldn't help but to take a picture of this one.

Yeah... So I've never in my whole life seen a rabbi that looks like that. I've also never seen an Asian rabbi either...

Well -- a Klingon one, of course.
Come on, now you're just being silly on purpose.

Sometimes it's insulting. Sometimes it's merely strange if you know what's being used.
This is just the opposite. Little Chinese kids dressing up like rabbis.
I haven't been so amused since I saw The Last Samurai and Cowboy Bebop in the same week proving that Americans really dig Japan and Japanese people really dig America and neither one of us really gets the other one - but we really dig each other.

I'm sure there are rabbis who have asian ancestry (if only since many Jews from Eastern Europe sure do have some distinctive tatar- like features). And if there haven't been yet, I guarantee there will be soon. "Rabbi" like "Jew" is not a racial category.
However, I must admit, I doubt I'll ever see a rabbi, Asain-ancestry or no, dressed like the COhen gadol (that's gotta me the choshen on his chest, yeah?) Well, unless of course mashiach arrives tomorrow, in which case, you just never know.

Scroll down to the bottom for a picture of Angela Warnick Buchdahl, the first Asian-American Rabbi and Cantor.
Also, isn't Iran technically in Asia? And India certainly is. In which case we all know of lots of Asian rabbis.

For some reason when I saw the picture, I thought it said "Jewish Rabbit". Then I was even more confused until I looked closer and saw "Rabbi".
